What I’m Listening To

  1. Barbara Hament, Dementia Discussions

Barbara is my mentor. She has over 30 years of experience with older adults and dementia. She created and grew Senior Care Navigator LA, where I worked with her for five plus years.

In addition to her care management business she has committed to leading many support groups, weekly and monthly over many years.  With a hope for providing lessons learned from her support groups to more people than those who can attend, she set out to create this podcast at the beginning of Covid. She has created 67 episodes. Anyone caring for a loved one — parent, spouse, or friend — can likely find a sense of community and support in these podcasts

2. The GeriPal Podcast

Two youngish palliative care doctors (Drs. Alex Smith and Eric Widera) meet with fascinating professionals who are deep in or adjacent to the geriatric care, wellness and death. Each episode starts with host Alex asking one of the guests to name a song they want Alex to play on his guitar — a true ice breaker and, more often than not, song requests provide a window into the thinking of the guest (“Forever Young” (Alphaville) requested by a guest on the episode about new prognostic models for older adults).

3. The Parkinson’s Podcast

The Parkinson’s Podcast is produced by the Davis Phinney Foundation.  The Davis Phinney Foundation was started by the famed American Cyclist, Davis Phinney, who developed Parkinson’s at the age of 40.  His podcast (and foundation) seek to educate people with Parkinson’s Disease, their families and the professionals that care for them about medical and non-medical topics related to living better with the disease physically and emotionally.
